Hunnibell Racing > 21st February 2015, Ruapuna

Our first heat for the night we started out of grid position 9. We managed to get the jump on the start and moved up to 5th. We were having a great little battle with about 4 other cars – you could’ve just about thrown a blanket over them - that’s how great the racing was. Unfortunately on the last lap the leader ran to wide and rode up the wall and cut back across the track in front of about 4 cars and we were the unfortunate one who got collected and spun. It took a while for them to throw the yellow so there was debate over whether the race had finished before the yellow was thrown. It was decided they would go back and re-run the last lap of the race and we even got our position back. On the restart we were able to hold on to 5th position. After the race it took over and hour to resolve the race as people were unhappy that the race was re-run and that we got our position back. It was decided that the re-run would not count and they would go back to the 11th lap of the original race which meant we still finished in 5th position.

They decided to water the track before our last heat race of the night. Peter thought the track was dangerous as there was still puddles of water when they turned the lights off. He even stopped on the track to advise someone, they did not listen and started the race after he was restarted. We started out of grid 1 and got the lead on the start. The car was setup to run the high line which wasn’t working due to the top being greasy from the water so we had to use other parts of the track. This set us back and we dropped back to finish 3rd.

At the end of the 5 heat races we were sitting 11th on points which was where we were going to start the feature. The feature went from start to finish will no stoppages. We managed to move up to 5th position but with limited passing when you were running the bottom it made it difficult to move any further forward. We finished up the NZ Title in 8th position which was an improvement from last year! This weekend was definitely a great learning curve for the team.
